I tried to see if I would be able to separate the salt and pepper mill but was not able to at first. 

Inside the package the instructions explain how to separate them. 

It requires a little bit of strength in order to separate them. Once it is separated, the container can hold a small amount of salt and pepper. 

Each side has the section to pull the container apart to pour the salt in one container and the pepper in the other container.  

I was able to attach the container back very easily. I did one at a time, otherwise, the salt or pepper would fall out of the container creating a mess. 

I like that it is one piece being used for both the salt and the pepper. It has a nice design to it. It does not take up much space. the cap is removed and after turning the container it will dispense the salt and pepper. This is a nice salt and pepper mill that will come in handy.
